Laser Spine Institute Tampa

Since opening its doors in 2005, Laser Spine Institute Tampa has set the standard for minimally invasive treatment of degenerative spine conditions such as arthritis of the spine and degenerative disc disease. As the global Leader in Endoscopic Spine Surgery™, Laser Spine Institute has helped tens of thousands of patients from across the United States and around the world rediscover their lives without back and neck pain.

Procedures Performed at Laser Spine Institute Tampa

The number one goal at Laser Spine Institute is to provide an alternative to highly invasive open back and neck surgery, which typically requires several days of hospitalization, a long period of recuperation, and the permanent fusion of one or more vertebral segments using metal plates, rods, and screws. The orthopedic specialists at Laser Spine Institute do not perform spinal fusion surgery. Rather, our surgeons use advanced, endoscopic technology to relieve spinal nerve compression that may be causing chronic pain, tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. Our four primary procedures include:

  • Laminotomy – the removal of a portion of the lamina, which provides a protective “roof” over the spinal cord. This procedure is primarily used to remove bone spurs.
  • Facet thermal ablation – a laser is used as a heat source to desensitize (ablate) one or more local nerves inside a degenerative facet joint.
  • Foraminotomy – this procedure cleans the foramina, which are the openings on either side of each vertebra through which spinal nerves pass as they branch off from the spinal cord.
  • Percutaneous endoscopic discectomy – a laser is used to dissolve a portion of an abnormal intervertebral disc, such as a bulge or protrusion, which could be causing painful nerve compression.

When to Seek Help at Laser Spine Institute Tampa

Most back or neck pain can be managed using conservative treatment such as pain medication, epidural injections, stretching, exercises, or physical therapy. However, if chronic symptoms remain debilitating after several weeks or months of conservative treatment, surgery may become an option. If so, contact Laser Spine Institute for a consultation with our renowned medical staff. We‘ll provide a complimentary review of your MRI or CT scan to determine whether you are a candidate to undergo a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure at our state-of-the-art surgical center in Tampa, Florida.
